Translate real conversations while travelling abroad
Free to try, no sign-up needed.
Start a roomTravelling somewhere you do not speak the language is rewarding, but everyday interactions—check-in, a taxi ride, a stall at the market—can feel high stakes. FlashTranslate is meant for those in-person moments: two people, two languages, each on their own phone or laptop in the browser, with live voice translation and a typed chat fallback.
Before you head out, open flashtranslate.io on Wi‑Fi and create a free room. Pick your language and the local one; the second language dropdown uses your browser language when it is supported. Share the room code or copy the join link for your companion, or keep the code ready to show at reception. The other person opens the link or enters the code, chooses their language from the pair locked to the room, and joins. You do not need an account for the trial, which includes five free minutes.
That setup covers common travel scenarios: confirming a booking at the front desk, telling a driver an address, asking which way to walk, or bargaining politely at a shop. Speak in short, clear sentences in the language you selected; the other person hears and reads the translation in theirs, and the on-screen chat log helps you catch names, numbers, or prices you might have missed.
Small habits make a difference. Step slightly away from street noise when you can—the room notes that quieter environments help transcription stay accurate. Glance at the mic level meter beside the live indicator: if the bar barely moves, hold the phone nearer the speaker or confirm the browser has microphone permission. If the network dips, connection status appears and the app tries to reconnect; tap Retry if you need to nudge it.
In a quiet shop or a crowded bus, typing works too: enter a message in your spoken language and send it—the other person still gets a translation. FlashTranslate runs in a modern mobile or desktop browser with an internet connection, not offline. When you are finished, leave the room so your free session does not linger on shared Wi‑Fi.
